Eric Church, A Thousand Horses, and Reba McEntire Release New Singles

It's not everyday that three country superstars release new singles within a couple hours of each other, but that's what I found when I woke up my computer this morning.

Eric Church released "Record Year" as the follow-up single to "Mr. Misunderstood."  I think it's a good choice for a single.  It tells a nice story (I love story songs) and has a strong hook.  I still haven't heard why his label pulled "Mr. Misunderstood" last week.  It had positive momentum, at least on the Music Row Country Breakout Chart, and was set to hit #1 within a few weeks.  I guess I'lll never understand record label politics.

Also on my desk this morning, is Reba's new single "Just Like Them Horses."  I'm glad her record label finally decided to make the best song on Love Somebody a single.  The first two barely moved the needle on the charts.  Reba says she played this song at her father's funeral.  She tells Rolling Stone that the black-and-white clip was filmed on the McEntire family's land in honor of the late Clark McEntire, who passed away in the fall of 2014.

It looks like A Thousand Horses have settled on the title track to their album Southernality as the third single.  Lead singer Michael Hobby co-wrote this one with Neil Mason and Corey Crowder.  The Horses recently picked up an ACM nomination for "Vocal Group Of The Year."
