NATCHEZ, Miss. – Another movie involving director Tate Taylor and Oscar-winning actress Octavia Spencer is being filmed in Natchez.

Production is set to start in January for what Natchez Mayor Darryl Grennell said will be a low-budget horror flick much like “Get Out,” the acclaimed movie filmed in Alabama by Jordan Peele and released this year with rave reviews and high-ticket sales.

Taylor, who lives at Wyolah plantation near Natchez in the Church Hill community, directed “Get On Up,” the biopic about soul singer James Brown filmed in Natchez in 2013.

“Get On Up” producer John Norris is also involved in this latest movie project, said Grennell, who pointed to the economic impact the production will have for Natchez in terms of jobs, purchases and other essentials needed in making a movie.

The mayor said production crews will be using the second floor of the Natchez City Council Chamber building on Pearl Street. Pre-production starts later this month, he said.

Spencer won an Academy Award for best supporting actress for her work in “The Help,” which was also directed by Taylor. She was also in “Get On Up.”

Grennell said he met with Norris this week and is awaiting a script of the movie.

The mayor announced the new movie-making venture in Natchez at a meeting Tuesday of the Board of Aldermen, which heard a presentation from a consultant on how to attract more retailers and shoppers to the city. | © 2014 | All Rights Reserved
