40-unit housing development set in Ferriday

FERRIDAY, La. — A 40-unit housing development will be built behind Fred’s on Lincoln Avenue on 6.5 acres owned by the town.

David Strange, President/CEO of Rowanoak Development, LLC offered to buy the land for $200,000 for development.

Rowanoak also bought an additional parcel from Penny Gregg for $20,000.

Strange said the rental houses would cost $650 a month.

Strange said ownership of the development would be 99 percent Berkshire Hathaway and one percent Public Housing Authority and Rowanoak Joint Ventrey.

Strange said his company would partner with Ferriday Housing Authority.

“The state will receive 75 applications this year and fund 15,” Strange said. “We want to enter into an option to purchase the land. We will apply in July and they will announce who receives approval in September. It will take 75 days for studies and permits and a 12-month process to build a subdivision and houses. Each house will be three bedroom and one bath with a garage.”
