NATCHEZ, Miss. — Applications are being accepted for the 1st Adams County Sheriff's Office Citizen's Academy. Classes will be held every Thursday evening from 6 - 8 p.m. This 10 week program begins March 15th and ends on May 19th with a graduation ceremony and celebration.

The Citizen's Academy is free and has 20 spots open. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age and able to attend 80% of the classes.

According to a press release issued by Sheriff Travis Patten, the Citizen's Academy is a great way for community members to get an exclusive, inside look at what law enforcement does on a daily basis to protect citizens. The training will include classes in use of force, search and seizure law, crisis intervention, firearms, and voluntary patrol ride-along.

There will also be a tour of the jail and a presentation by Sheriff Patten, Chief Rabb, Chief Brown, and the NARC/HEAT Unit.

Application deadline is March 2nd, 2018.
