Natchez High Lockdown
from Staff Reports - NEWS
February 20, 2018 -

NATCHEZ, Miss. —  At approximately 8:43 a.m. Sheriff Patten was notified by a school official that there was a possible threat against the school. When deputies arrived and made contact with school officials, they were informed that one student threatened to assault another student.

A group text was sent out by a student about the incident. The incident was exaggerated each time it was related and ended up as a possible active shooter event. One parent saw the text, and came to the school hysterical and took her child from class. The parent refused to stop and explain to school security or officials. She would only say there was “going to be” an active shooter.

Erring on the side of caution, the school notified law enforcement. Adams County Sheriff’s Office along with Natchez Police Department and Mississippi Highway Patrol cleared the campus and spoke with everyone involved including the students. The threat was determined to be false and the campus was taken off of lockdown.

No gun was ever mentioned in the initial threat about an assault. | © 2014 | All Rights Reserved
