Louisiana health officials schedule free flu shot clinics
from Staff Reports - NEWS
January 26, 2018 -

The Louisiana Department of Health Office of Public Health is offering flu vaccines at NO COST on Wednesday, January 31, from 1:00 - 4:30 p.m. to anyone who has not yet received a flu vaccine this year.

No Cost Flu Vaccines will be administered through the State of Louisiana Department of Health on Wednesday, Jan. 31st at the Concordia Parish Health Unit at 905 Mickey Gilley in Ferriday, in Franklin Parish at 6614 Main Street in Winnsboro, for Avoyelles Parish at 657 Government St. in Marksville, and at the Catahoula Unit at 200 Third St. in Jonesville.
Open from 1 - 4:30 p.m.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Louisiana Department of Heath recommend a yearly flu shot for everyone over six months of age who does not have a complicating condition, such as a prior allergic reaction to the flu shot.

A flu shot is especially crucial for people who may be at higher risk for serious complications. This includes babies and young children, pregnant women, people with chronic health conditions and people 65 years and older. The flu shot is safe for pregnant and breastfeeding women, who can pass on antibodies to their babies that will help protect them. The flu shot starts to offer partial protection immediately, but takes about two weeks to offer full protection.
