NATCHEZ, Miss. — The Board of Supervisors voted to allow a rodeo-music festival to be held at the Adams County-owned horse facility next month that a spokesman said could draw hundreds of visitors to the Natchez area.

Extensive plans had been made for the Mississippi Zydeco Jamboree previously without the county board’s consent. Supervisors told organizer Stanley Johnson in June that they couldn’t allow the August event at the Adams County equestrian center until more details could be hashed out. The board on Monday voted 3-2 to give the green light for it.

Johnson said he had been misled to believe permission had been granted to use the county-owned facility near Foster Mound Road for the Aug. 11-13 festival sponsored by the Southern Horsemen Association.

Supervisors expressed worries about the county facility and surrounding area accommodating such a large crowd with beer being sold there.

“I’ve got my fingers crossed that nothing will happen. It scares me,” said county board President Mike Lazarus, who joined Supervisor David Carter voting against it. Supervisors Ricky Gray, Calvin Butler and Angela Hutchins voted for it. | © 2014 | All Rights Reserved
