NATCHEZ, Miss. - Natchez Police have arrested a mother and her boyfriend after the death of a 4-year-old girl and the severe beating of her 3-year-old sister, who remains in critical condition at a Jackson area hospital.

On Wednesday, June 5, 2019 officers responded around 11 a.m. to 601 Old Washington Road in Natchez to a call from AMR ambulance service. Officers observed what appeared to be a very sick child being moved from a vehicle to an ambulance, that then transported the child to Merit Hospital.

The Natchez Police Department says that it became very obvious to medical staff and police that the children, the 4-year-old girl and her 3-year-old sister who was transported by vehicle, were abused.

Armani Hill (4-years-old) died from her injuries. Her sister, whose name is being withheld, was taken to a Level 1 trauma hospital where she is listed in critical condition.

The mother of the girls, Lakeisha Jones and her boyfriend James "JC" Anderson were interviewed by police investigators along with additional witnesses. During the investigation authorities learned that the mother had been aware of the abuse by the boyfriend and had failed to take action to protect her children. The mother has a third child, an 8-year-old, no information was given about the third child.

Anderson was the only person home with the girls at the time of the abuse. The children had more than 12 separate injuries.

After the children were abused, Anderson made them go on 1/4 mile walk to the Holiday Apartment Complex. One of the girls kept falling down during the walk from being injured so badly.

Natchez Police Chief Walter Armstrong hosted a press conference Friday afternoon and said, "We will advocates for these young children, we will not leave any stones unturned. We will make sure that justice is done on behalf of these kids."

Chief Armstrong said that they had also learned during the course of their investigation that DHS (Mississippi Department of Human Service) had opened a case on the children twice and that local law enforcement had never been informed. DHS has recently closed the cases.

The police investigation revealed that the abuse had been ongoing.

Lakeshia Jones is charges with two counts Child Deprivation of Necessities with Substantial Harm and was arraigned on Friday, June 7, 2019 by Judge Dale. Her bond was set at $500,000.

James Anderson is charged with two counts of felonious abuse which carriers five years and up to life in prison. Anderson was arraigned on June 7, 2019 by Judge Dale. Anderson was denied bond on both counts.
