Vidalia man booked for woman’s rape, abduction

(Concordia Sentinel) — A Vidalia man was arrested March 1 for allegedly abducting a woman in Concordia Parish and reportedly raping her in Tensas Parish.

Ronnie Reed Cupstid, 47, 115 East Cottondale Court, Vidalia, was arrested on March 1 and charged with attempted second-degree murder, simple kidnapping, second-degree battery, felony criminal damage to property, aggravated assault and a probation and parole violation.

Cupstid is being held at the Concordia Parish Correctional Facility in Ferriday.

According to Concordia Parish Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy David Hedrick, the victim dropped someone off at Cupstid's house when Cupstid allegedly came up behind her in a truck and hit the vehicle the victim was driving with enough force on Hwy. 65 that the impact forced the victim's car into the ditch.

Hedrick said Cupstid then reportedly pulled the victim out of her vehicle, assaulted her and put her in his truck where he took her to Tensas Parish and allegedly raped her.

Hedrick said Cupstid returned to Concordia Parish where he dropped off the keys to the victim’s car at Fred’s Wrecker Service for towing.

When Cupstid got out of the truck at Fred’s, the victim — inside the vehicle — reportedly took it and drove to Lakeside Ford where she had seen Deputy Chris Goad parked. She made contact with the deputy at 2:33 a.m., Hedrick said.

Hedrick said Cupstid allegedly took off running after the victim as she was driving off. Goad intervened and had to fend off Cupstid.

“I firmly believe that if my deputies had not been there this would have escalated into a terrible crime,” Hedrick said. “Chris Goad saved her life.”

Cupstid could face additional charges in Tensas Parish, Hedrick said.
