NATCHEZ, Miss. — The city will apply for state funds totaling $2.5 million to improve Natchez Water Works operations. The scope of work includes water line upgrades on Providence Road and Lewis Drive and service enhancements for the Natchez-Adams County Port on the Mississippi River.

The city will seek funds from the Community Development Block Grant program and the state Department of Health. The application deadline is in May. The Board of Aldermen on Tuesday agreed to move forward with the application. The city will not have to put up local matching funds and there will be no rate increase on local water consumers to pay for the improvements, said Mayor Darryl Grennell. | © 2014 | All Rights Reserved
