Three injured in Concordia Parish shootings
from The Concordia Sentinel
October 5, 2017 -

Two separate accidental shooting incidents sent three people to the hospital recently, according to police.

Vidalia Police Chief Joey Merrill said that on Sunday morning a child apparently shot two people accidentally at East Circle Drive in Vidalia.

Brandy Mitchell of Natchez and Daniel Baker each were wounded in the shooting.

Merrill said there is an ongoing investigation, but the shooting appears to be accidental.

Baker and Mitchell were taken to Natchez Merit Health. Merrill said Baker was released Sunday, while Mitchell was flown to Rapides Regional Medical Center where she was in intensive care, but is not listed in stable condition.

Vidalia officers contacted the Department of Children and Family Services and the Rapides Children's Advocacy Center.

On Sept. 29, Charles Stutson of Ferriday was closing his office in the evening on Mickey Gilley Avenue in Ferriday when his .225 caliber gun fell and discharged, with the bullet striking him in the face.

"The safety was on, but the gun discharged," said Ferriday Investigator Richard Madison. "We called for an ambulance, but after 10 or 15 minutes we took Mr. Stutson to Riverland Medical Center in a police car. He was then sent to Rapides General Hospital in Alexandria,"

Madison said Stutson was released from Rapides General and was back at work on Monday.

"He was very blessed it wasn't an inch or two either way," Madison said.
