Ouachita Parish school buses too crowded, leaving kids without seats

MONROE, La. —  It’s the second week of school for Ouachita Parish and buses are getting crowded.

Parents say that their kids are standing in the aisles or sitting three to a seat.

“My main concern is just safety,” says Mary Dean. Dean is a parent to a middle schooler and high school student in Ouachita Parish. She didn’t know just how packed the buses are until her middle school daughter spoke up. "I'm not just worried about my child, but other children. I mean they're packed three to a seat, they're standing and sitting in the aisles," says Dean.

Seatbelts are not required on school buses in Louisiana, but not having a seat is what Dean says is a serious safety hazard.
