Louisiana deputy shot, killed while investigating rape

Authorities have identified the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's deputy who was shot and killed Saturday night as Sgt. Shawn T. Anderson.

43-year-old Anderson and another deputy were investigating a rape case at Classic Cuts Salon at 11 p.m. when deputies struggled with a suspect and shots were fired injuring the deputy and the suspect.

The deputy later died at a local medical center. The suspect remains hospitalized. 

Anderson served a nearly 18-year career with the Sheriff's Office in at least six different divisions. He earned repeated awards and recognition. Last march he delivering a baby while on the side of a road. Two years earlier, he was recognized for his role in serving more than 60 "high-risk" warrants as part of the SWAT team. In 2010, he received the "Life Saving Award" after he rescued a woman while on the Old Mississippi River bridge.
