32-year-old Amethyst Baird Rathore of Monroe has pleaded guilty to attempted first murder of a police officer and three other charges in the January shooting of a state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Agent. Rathore’s attorney has said she suffered a concussion prior to the shooting of agent Tyler Wheeler. Legal analyst Tim Meche says her attorney may use that defense at the sentencing hearing.

"They're going to try to show there was something abhorrent to cause her to behave this way", Meche said.
Fourth District Attorney Steve Tew didn’t expect her plea, but will seek the longest sentence possible based on the fact she’s a habitual offender. Meche expects Rathore to receive a lengthy sentence.

"Whether it be life or something short of that, she's going to be in jail for a very, very, very long time", Meche said.

Rathore shot Wheeler four times during a traffic stop in Morehouse Parish on January 7. Meche expects law enforcement will have a strong presence at sentencing hearing to make sure Rathore is punished appropriately.

"They take it personally, when one of their own is shot. So there's going to be a lot of pressure on the judge to give her a severe sentence. The defense attorney has his work cut out for him", Meche said.
