Vidalia Little League hosting state tournament

The Vidalia Minor League 9-10 Little League Softball All-Stars host Lake Charles Friday at 8 p.m. in the first round of the state tournament to be held at the Recreation District No. 3.

"The main thing is to try and stay in the winner's bracket," said Vidalia coach Christal McGlothin.

Jackson Parish will face Avoyelles at 6 p.m.

Evangeline and Moss Bluff receive byes.

Vidaila swept Avoyelles in two games to win the District 3 Tournament in Vidalia Friday night.

Vidalia won the first game 6-2 before clinching the title with an 11-3 win Friday.

The tournament was scheduled to start on June 18, but rains during the week pushed the tournament back.

Liza Gregg scored scored two runs for Vidalia. Scoring two runs were Molly Shirley, Natalie Webb, Macee Green and Kinsley LeBlanc.

Scoring two runs in the second game were Reagan Hewitt, Webb, and LeBlanc. Scoring one run each were Shirley, Green, Gregg, Lainey Sharp and Roniya Ellis.

The Ferriday Gators begin district play Saturday in Delhi.

Ferriday will play Winnsboro on Saturday, and Bastrop and Rayville on Sunday.

North Carolina won the Dixie Debs World Series in Alexandria last year.

Alexandria and Tennessee were co-runners-up in the state tournament.

The Vidalia Senior League All-Stars will host the Southwest Regional Tournament July 21-25 in Vidalia.
