PEARL, Miss. — The Atlanta Braves have announced a series of promotions affecting its minor league affiliates. Steve DeSalvo has been named Vice President, General Manager of the Mississippi Braves while Jim Bishop has been named Vice President, General Manager of the Rome Braves.

DeSalvo, 58, just completed his 31st season with the Double-A Braves and his 37th season in professional baseball. The Centereach, NY, native began his career as the assistant general manager at Daytona Beach. He then joined the Auburn Astros as General Manager for two years before moving to Ft. Myers in the same role. DeSalvo was named General Manager of the Greenville Braves prior to the 1987 season and has led the Double-A Braves ever since. DeSalvo also serves as Vice President of the Southern League (2000-present).

"Words cannot describe how proud and honored I am to become a Vice President for the Atlanta Braves," said DeSalvo. "Everyone I've come in contact with over the years with the Braves has been first class. I want to thank A-Braves President Mike Plant for this honor and the entire Braves organization. I plan to continue helping make the Mississippi Braves and the Atlanta Braves the gold standard of baseball and all of sports."

Bishop, who had been serving as the assistant general manager of the Mississippi Braves for the past 13 years, will replace Mike Dunn who was recently promoted to Vice President of Florida Operations.

"We are delighted to have Jim oversee our operations in Rome," said Mike Plant, Braves president of development. "His experience and dedication within our organization makes him the perfect person to lead our operations in Rome."

A Greenville, SC native, Bishop, 47, just completed his 22nd season as the Assistant General Manager and his 25th overall with the Double-A Braves. Bishop spent his first 13 years with the organization in Greenville, SC, before the club relocated to Pearl, MS, for the 2005 season.

"I am very excited and proud for Jim Bishop," DeSalvo said. "Jim has been with me in this organization for his entire baseball career and he has been a valuable "right-hand man" for years. Although I'm sorry to see him go, he is more than ready to lead his own team. Rome will be in good hands with Jim Bishop."

Bishop's tenure with the Braves began in 1992 as a trainee for the Double-A Braves. He quickly progressed to Food and Beverage Director and then Ticket Manager, before being named the Assistant General Manager in the fall of 1996. In addition to being the Double-A Braves Assistant General Manager, Bishop has been serving as the Marketing Director for the Southern League of Professional Baseball. A 1992 graduate of the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Administration, Bishop worked for the USC Athletic Department prior to joining the Braves.

"I am honored and want to thank the Atlanta Braves for this opportunity," says Bishop. "I am very excited to be joining the Rome Braves team. State Mutual Stadium is a fantastic facility located in a wonderful community. The fine people of Mississippi will be missed by me and my family. We will never forget how we were embraced with open arms for the past 13 years."

Jim and his wife Krista have two sons, Jack and Davis.
