THIBODAUX, La. (AP) — A school crossing guard in south Louisiana was hit by a vehicle and killed early Thursday.
Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre said it happened in the northern part of the parish on La. 20 near Chackbay Elementary School.The crossing guard was Larry Boudreaux, 67, of Thibodaux, worked for the sheriff’s office, Webre said.
“My prayers and deepest sympathies go out to the family involved, as well as our Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office family as a whole,” Webre said in a statement.
Webre described Boudreaux as “one of our dedicated school traffic guards.”
“We are praying for Larry, his wife, and their two daughters during this extremely difficult time.”
Webre said Boudreaux, a U.S. Army veteran, began his career with the sheriff’s office in July 2016 and began serving as a crossing guard in Bayou Blue. He was later reassigned to Chackbay Elementary. He also spent hours volunteering at the sheriff’s shooting range.
Few details have been released about thecrash, which remains under investigation by Louisiana State Police.
