VICKSBURG, Miss, (AP) — A Mississippi woman was arrested and accused of hitting her 13-year-old son with car while attempting to break up a fight between him and a 20-year-old man, authorities said.
Katherine Upshire, 36, was charged Monday with aggravated assault, news outlets reported.
Vicksburg police responded to the scene and found a 13-year-old lying on the street and a 20-year-old man suffering from minor injuries.
A police report said the two were fighting in the street and Upshire, the 13-year-old’s mother, attempted to break up the fight by striking the man with her car.
The report said the man dodged out of the way and Upshire ended up hitting her son.
The teen was hospitalized but his condition wasn’t immediately released. The man was treated at the scene for his injuries. His name wasn’t immediately released.
It’s unclear whether Upshire had an attorney who could comment on her behalf.
