A Dr. Martin Luther King exhibit is traveling this month and next through the University of Louisiana system campuses. The “Carrying on the Dream” exhibit is on display today and tomorrow on the campus of Louisiana Tech in Ruston. La Tech Spokesperson Tonya Oaks Smith said they are fortunate to host the display today.
“I had the honor of being present at the opening of the exhibit at Louisiana Tech and it is powerful and moving,” said Smith.
The exhibit also features regional civil rights artifacts, a Civil Rights art piece, and screenings of the documentary I am MLK Jr. Smith said if you aren’t able to make it to La Tech’s campus…
“Then it will be traveling to Northwestern State University and be there through February 5th, and then it will go to McNeese and then after that, it will go to ULL,” said Smith.
Smith said the traveling exhibit is appropriate for all ages.
“If history or political science professors or teachers could bring their students to see it, I think it’s a great way to start a conversation about diversity, equity, and inclusion for all of us,” said Smith.
Included in the traveling exhibit is the 1966 Cadillac hearse that carried King’s body to his funeral almost 54 years ago in Memphis that was procured by exhibit sponsor Raising Cain’s CEO Todd Graves in 2018.
