NATCHEZ, Miss. – Adams County supervisors agreed Monday to provide nearly $3,500 to upgrade the Natchez-Adams County Aquatic Center’s chemical controls as repairs are being made for the now-closed swimming pool’s pump system.
While new pumping parts are being delivered and installed, it could be another two weeks before the pool can reopen for swimming, said Natchez Parks & Recreation interim Director Ryan Porter.
The main pump that filters dirty water and recirculates clean water back into the pool stopped working earlier this month.
“The current pump is under warranty and should be repaired at no cost within the next two weeks,” Porter said.
With the pool jointly owned by Natchez and Adams County, the city and county equally share funding its maintenance and operations.
The Board of Supervisors on Monday agreed to provide the $3,500 Porter recommended for the pool’s needed chemical-control equipment,
“It simply monitors the system and turns things on and off to help maintain safe chemistry for sanitation. Proper chemistry will also prolong the lifespan of the power-end assembly or pump unit,” Porter said.
Adams County officials process paying the pool’s bills. and city officials reimburse them for Natchez’ 50 percent share of the expenses. There’s about $28,000 in the pool account, said Chancery Clerk Brandi Lewis, the county’s treasurer.
The community’s only public swimming pool was built and opened in spring 2018. The Liberty Park facility since then has been plagued by management instability – most recently in May when the city and county boards dissolved the pool commission that managed the aquatic center.
