IMPORTANT WEATHER UPDATE –
Due to icing conditions, we are taking immediate steps to provide for the safety of our citizens.1. MDOT is coordinating with both Natchez and Vidalia to immediately spray sand on the Mississippi River Bridges. We urge anyone using the bridges to exercise caution.2. The City of Natchez is canceling events and meetings scheduled for today and tomorrow, including today’s signing ceremony at Zion Chapel and tomorrow’s meeting of the Mayor and Board of Aldermen. We are grateful that the organizers of today’s parade have also chosen to postpone. New dates will be announced soon.3. Due to expected precipitation, and further icing of roadways, the city will be closed Tuesday. We expect the county to do the same. Plans for Wednesday will be announced after further review of icing conditions.4. We urge everyone to stay off the roads as much as possible. The safety of our citizens should come first. Our first responders need to remain available for emergencies, and we want to avoid having them respond to vehicular accidents that could have been avoided.5. Please begin immediately to let your faucets run at a steady drip to keep movement in our water system over the next two days and to avoid excessive pipe breakage Wednesday when conditions begin to thaw. If you experience or see a broken water line, please call Natchez Water Works, 24 Hour Call Line, 601-445-5521, Option 8.6. Please make sure to check on loved ones, neighbors and the elderly to make sure they have heat, food and water.7. Please make sure to bring pets indoors. Conditions are too cold for pets to be left outside.8. We have already communicated with Entergy and all are prepared should we have power outages. In the event of power loss, please call Entergy at 1 (800) 368-37499. Adams County Safe Room is opening today at 1:00 pm. It is located at 323 Liberty Road. Those in need of shelter are welcome. Bring your own food and blankets. Pets must be crated. The Safe Room will be open as long as temperatures are below freezing. Please know that our Police, Fire Department, and Public Works Crew Members are already on the job making sure we are prepared. We pray all will be well. But we also know that we must always take the necessary precautions, doing our part to keep our city safe. Because Natchez Deserves More.
