NATCHEZ, Miss. – The city has received a $142,000 grant from the state for repairing Natchez’ historic Angelety House. Work is needed for the St. Catherine Street structure’s exterior, including its roof, gutters, windows and doors.
The Mississippi Department of Archives & History announced last week that the Angelety House was awarded the $142,000 from the state’s Community Heritage Preservation Grant program that’s funded by the state Legislature.
The one-and-a-half-story brick cottage has an elaborate Gothic center dormer and other Gothic trim. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. It was restored in the 1970s by the city – with its modern front torn down to reveal the original structure’s face – and has been used in recent years by the National Coalition of 100 Black Women’s local chapter.
