In the upcoming April 2 municipal primary election in Natchez, Mayor Dan Gibson stands unchallenged as he seeks a second term in office, indicating strong support or lack of opposition within the community. This election cycle will see three out of the six members of the Natchez Board of Aldermen facing competitors, while the remaining officials, including the newly appointed Municipal Court Judge Christina Daugherty, will run unopposed. Daugherty, who also serves as the vice principal at Adams County Christian School, stepped into her judicial role following the resignation of Lisa Jordan Dale in late December, who left to join the district attorney’s office.
Aldermen Valencia Hall of Ward 1, Felicia Bridgewater-Irving of Ward 4, and Ben Davis of Ward 5 are preparing to defend their seats against challengers in the primary. Hall will be contested by fellow Democrat Larry Hooper, while Bridgewater-Irving faces a rematch against Michael Calcote, who narrowly lost to her in the 2020 election, in addition to another contender, Adrian Fulton. Davis is up against Jamar White, with the primary victor set to compete against independent candidate Tarsha Ambeau in the June 4 municipal general election.
Ward 2 Alderman Billie Joe Frazier, Ward 3 Alderwoman Sarah Carter Smith, and Ward 6 Alderman Curtis Moroney will continue in their roles without facing any opposition, securing another four-year term each. Moroney’s position comes after a special election victory on May 25, 2023, filling the vacancy left by the late Alderman Dan Dillard of Ward 6, who passed away on March 29, 2023.
