NATCHEZ, Miss. – Adams County supervisors are trying to find more money to build restrooms for the Chester Willis baseball venue that’s being renovated.
While new restroom facilities were in the original renovation plans, the estimated $200,000 needed exceed what the board budgeted for the $2.2 million project. The old restrooms are barely functional, and the water-damaged baseball locker rooms are also in bad shape.
“This is unacceptable,” county Supervisor Ricky Gray said of having “a state-of-the-art (baseball) facility with bathrooms from the Thirties and locker rooms with mold in it….We’re going to have to find a way to find the money.”
County supervisors said they’ll ask the Natchez-Adams School District board to consider providing funds for the aged baseball venue used by Natchez High School.
Work began last summer at the county-owned Liberty Park facility to install new turf, dugouts, bleachers, lighting and fencing. Renovations are to be completed by the upcoming baseball spring season.
The ballfield has been used for the past several decades by Natchez and Cathedral high schools. Its history goes as far back as 1940, when the minor league baseball team Natchez Pilgrims played there, according to baseball history records. Teams went on to play there as the Natchez Giants and Natchez Indians until the early 1950s.
Chester Willis Field is being upgraded to college-playing standards, which could accommodate games hosted by nearby Alcorn State University and Copiah-Lincoln Community College.

Until we get this issue resolved..
Have we considered renting those bathrooms on trailers?
Or at worst putting Port-a Johns in place and keeping them clean until we get this figured out. Let’s PLAY BAll…
As far as dressing rooms go…
NHS and others can dress at their respective schools or at home before they
Go to field as Cathedral and other schools that travel to play here do. PLAY BALL!!!
