PEARL, Miss. – A new era of baseball is coming to Trustmark Park. Beginning in 2025, the stadium will serve as home to a new baseball team, following the departure of the Mississippi Braves, who played their final game in Pearl on Sunday before moving to Georgia.
The new team will be part of the Frontier League, an independent baseball league that is expanding its reach into Mississippi. The announcement brings renewed excitement to the City of Pearl, which has seen significant economic growth since the Mississippi Braves moved to the area two decades ago.
According to Pearl Mayor Jake Windham, the city’s sales tax revenue has tripled since the arrival of the Braves, and city leaders are determined to maintain that momentum. “We didn’t sit around and drag our feet. We immediately started figuring out ways how we could get a team back here. And I’m very thankful for that. You know, as a mayor, you do not want to see a structure like this sitting empty,” Windham said.
City officials wasted no time in securing a replacement team for Trustmark Park, ensuring that the beloved venue remains an active part of the community.
Fans Can Vote on Team Name
From September 9-27, fans will have the opportunity to vote for the new team’s name. The three options on the ballot are:
- Mississippi Mud Monsters
- Mississippi Grits
- Mississippi Soul Shakers
The city is encouraging the public to participate in choosing the name, which will define the identity of the new team and continue Pearl’s baseball tradition.
As the Frontier League expansion team prepares to make Trustmark Park its home, anticipation is growing about what the future holds for Pearl’s baseball fans and local economy.
Fans can stay tuned for updates on the team and name voting through the City of Pearl’s official channels.
