VIDALIA, LA — Town officials are urging residents to use caution following confirmed sightings of alligators near Polk Park Pond, located adjacent to Vidalia City Hall.
According to a public notice from the Town of Vidalia’s official Facebook page, rising river levels have displaced local wildlife, pushing some animals, including alligators, into more populated, residential areas. The notice highlights that this increase in river height has made encounters with wildlife more likely, especially in areas near water sources.
Town authorities are actively monitoring the situation and working on a solution to remove the alligators safely. In the meantime, the public is advised to exercise extra caution when visiting Polk Park, particularly those with small children and pets.
“We want to ensure the safety of all our residents and visitors,” the town’s statement reads. “Please remain aware of your surroundings and avoid approaching any wildlife you may encounter.”
If anyone spots an alligator or other displaced wildlife, they are encouraged to contact local authorities or animal control immediately and not attempt to handle the animal themselves.
