The Adams County Board of Supervisors reviewed plans for renovations to the Natchez–Adams County Airport terminal in preparation for the return of commercial passenger service. The terminal must be ready by June 24 ahead of SkyWest Airlines, an affiliate of United Airlines, beginning service on July 1. The estimated cost to bring the airline to the county is $6.8 million.
Beginning today, SNAP recipients in Louisiana are no longer allowed to use their benefits to purchase soda, energy drinks, or candy. Louisiana Health Secretary Bruce Greenstein said the goal is to encourage the purchase of healthier foods. Eligible items include fruits, vegetables, meat, poultry, fish, and dairy products. Greenstein said recipients have been informed of the change.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency has announced that local governments and certain nonprofits in 18 Mississippi counties are now eligible for public assistance grants following damage from the January winter storm. The grants will support debris removal and permanent repairs to public facilities. Adams County is included among the newly approved counties.
More school districts are shifting to four‑day school weeks, largely for financial reasons and to help retain teachers. David Claxton, executive director of the Louisiana Association of School Superintendents and Administrators, said some rural districts have difficulty recruiting teachers. Under Louisiana law, districts must still meet required instructional time, totaling 63,720 minutes per year. Students in four‑day districts spend an additional hour and a half in school each day.
