The Adams County Board of Supervisors received news that employee health insurance premiums may decrease next year. A representative from Burn Insurance Agency presented two options to the board, both offering significant savings compared to the county’s current costs. The reduction is attributed to fewer insurance claims by county employees over the past year.
With the arrival of the Lenten season, demand for seafood is increasing. A Kenner seafood dealer reported that oysters are currently in peak condition. He also noted that finfish varieties such as black drum and sheephead are strong options in the coming weeks. Crawfish prices are expected to decline after a few more weeks of favorable weather. Crab remains expensive for now, though prices may adjust if warmer weather continues.
Mississippi lawmakers are advancing a bill to establish a task force to study the statewide shortage of child care centers. Legislators say more parents are seeking child care services, but a lack of teachers limits availability. The task force would examine the causes of the teacher shortage and report its findings to the governor and other state leaders by December 1. The bill has been sent to the Mississippi Senate for further consideration.
Carnival season has concluded for 2026. This year marked the first Carnival for the new Archbishop of New Orleans, James Chequeo, who previously served in New Jersey. He said he was warmly welcomed and enjoyed attending multiple events, parade routes, and Carnival balls. The archbishop noted his appreciation for the traditions of New Orleans’ Carnival celebrations.
