Natchez Mayor Dan Gibson says he is seeking answers regarding significant property tax increases reported across Adams County. Some residents experienced valuation hikes of 25 to 30 percent or higher. Gibson says the City of Natchez may partner with Adams County to conduct an independent reappraisal. He encourages anyone who believes their assessment is too high to file an appeal.
Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry says residents should expect higher state income tax refunds this year. According to Landry, the average middle‑class working family will save nearly $500, and the average working individual will save about $261. He says these increases result from 2024 legislation that tripled the standard deduction and doubled the retirement income exemption. House Ways and Means Chairman Tony Bacala says he personally expects a refund this year after owing taxes last year.
The University of Mississippi Medical Center has announced that regularly scheduled clinic appointments and elective procedures are canceled through Friday following a cyber attack reported a week ago. Officials say hospitals and emergency departments in Jackson, Madison County, Holmes County, and Grenada remain open. Canceled appointments will be rescheduled.
Louisiana is under another no‑burn order today as dry conditions persist. Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain says ongoing wildfires highlight the need for rain, though no rainfall is expected soon.
