The Downtown Natchez Alliance (DNA) is entering a new chapter following the resignation of Executive Director Leah Hunter, who stepped down effective April 9 after one year of service to pursue a new professional opportunity.
City and organizational leaders expressed appreciation for Hunter’s contributions and emphasized continuity moving forward. Mayor Dan Gibson highlighted her professionalism and strong communication with the city, while 2026 DNA Board President Elizabeth Greer noted confidence in the organization’s continued momentum.
Officials say ongoing projects and initiatives will continue without interruption, with the DNA board and volunteers maintaining focus on the group’s strategic plan. Leaders credited the organization’s success to collaboration, optimism, and a shared commitment to downtown Natchez.
Recent improvements across downtown, including new awnings, façade upgrades, and popular community events, reflect that progress. The organization will continue operating under a “working board” Main Street model, emphasizing design, promotion, economic vitality, and organization.
DNA leadership also pointed to the strength of its expanded board, which now includes professionals with expertise in finance, law, communications, and community development. The group has set key goals for 2026, including supporting the city’s wayfinding project, increasing volunteer opportunities, and establishing an endowment fund.
Looking ahead, DNA is preparing for its upcoming “Downtown Unlocked” event on May 2. The free event will give attendees a chance to tour available downtown properties, explore investment opportunities, and connect with local experts. The event will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 326 Main Street and will feature a keynote address from Dr. Rachel Carter of Mississippi State University.
Organizers say the event is part of a broader effort to promote downtown living and economic growth while continuing to revitalize historic spaces.
DNA leaders expressed gratitude to city officials, partners, and volunteers, reaffirming their mission to support a vibrant and sustainable downtown aligned with Natchez’s long-term vision.
