The Adams County Board of Supervisors approved its budget for the next fiscal year. The budget blueprint projects $46.3 million in spending and $42.2 million in revenue. The difference would come from cash reserves. The millage rate was also lowered by one mill.
In Oxford, LSU and Ole Miss’s top 10 matchup is expected to draw large crowds this weekend. Oxford has already welcomed more than 190,000 visitors for the Rebel 2024 game against second-ranked Georgia, and city officials said they expect this weekend could be even larger. The city reported that extra police will be on hand to support traffic control, and that preparations are underway to manage crowds.
Federal funding will also reach rural health providers across Mississippi. Twenty rural hospitals and health providers in Mississippi are set to receive funding through the Rural Health Provider Assistance Program. The program is administered by the Health Resources and Services Administration, which recently approved grants to 132 hospitals nationwide, including the 20 in Mississippi. Each receiving facility will receive just over $187,500.
Weather updates indicate a shift toward fall conditions. LSU Health climatologist Barry Keim said Louisiana will begin to see relief from the heat as a backdoor cold front moves through. He said the front will cross the state today, with impacts expected more prominently Thursday into Friday. Keim said the backdoor cold front will bring cooler air from the northeast, lowering high temperatures by a few degrees and reducing humidity. He noted dewpoint temperatures are expected to drop into the upper 60s before humidity rises again Saturday afternoon.
