The Adams County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) is taking a step to address outstanding warrants by publishing a comprehensive list online. This initiative aims to bring attention to individuals who have failed to appear in court or pay their fines for citations issued by law enforcement agencies within Natchez and Adams County.
Why Are Warrants Issued?
When a person receives a citation and does not pay the fine or appear in court to contest it, a judge may issue a Contempt of Court warrant. This is considered an arrestable offense, meaning individuals with outstanding warrants could be taken into custody at any time.
To assist the public in resolving these matters, the ACSO has uploaded the full list of active warrants to their website. Residents can check for their names by visiting www.adamscosheriff.org, click on full menu, and select the “Warrants” tab.
What Should You Do If Your Name is Listed?
- If your name appears on the list, it is advised that you take immediate action to resolve your warrant before facing arrest.
- Contact Adams County Justice Court at 601-442-0199 if you believe your name is on the list by mistake.
- If the warrant originated from another agency, you may need to contact ACSO to determine which department issued it and take appropriate steps to clear the matter.
Encouraging Community Involvement
ACSO is also asking the public for help in locating individuals with outstanding warrants. If you recognize a name on the list, you are encouraged to inform the individual so they can resolve their warrant. Additionally, those who wish to provide information about a fugitive’s whereabouts can call the Adams County Sheriff’s Office at 601-442-2752 or report anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 888-442-5001.
Beware of Scams
ACSO has also warned residents about phone scammers posing as law enforcement officers, demanding payments to resolve warrants. The Sheriff’s Office does not collect fines or request payment over the phone. All fines must be paid directly to the courts.
