NATCHEZ, Miss. – The Adams County board held closed-door discussions Monday about the county’s disputed contract with its garbage collector, “missing” money in Adams County Justice Court and an “internal affairs” investigation by the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, according to board President Kevin Wilson.
Wilson said he considers the garbage collection contract with United Infrastructure Services terminated. He cited its poor services, insufficient response to supervisors’ grievances and a lack of business licenses and insurance. However, other supervisors want to give the New Orleans-based company until Thursday to respond before the contract can actually be voided.
Wilson said the Board of Supervisors should agree to seek proposals from other companies, which he noted could step in quickly “if we get into a bind” for picking up residents’ garbage with UIS being fired.
UIS has been contracted to collect garbage for about 5,500 Adams County households outside Natchez since 2023 and – under a different name with the same operators – since 2018.
Wilson said the board in closed session Monday also discussed a Justice Court employee arrested after being caught “red-handed” allegedly stealing money. He didn’t know the employee’s name but noted the state auditor’s office has been called to further investigate.
Wilson said the “internal affairs” investigation involving the Adams County Sheriff’s Office concerns “cyberstalking” threats made by a former employee against Wilson and others.
