NEW IBERIA, La. (AP) — A city marshal in south Louisiana is facing charges he falsified signatures on subpoenas.
Louisiana State Police arrested New Iberia City Marshal Haywood “Tony” Migues, 67, on Thursday on eight counts of forgery, injuring public records and malfeasance in office. He was processed into the Iberia Parish Jail. It was unknown if he has an attorney who could speak on his behalf.
City marshals are charged with serving warrants and subpoenas for municipal courts, but authorities allege Migues faked the signatures of the people his office was legally required to personally serve with the documents. The investigation began last month as detectives with the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations received information alleging multiple signatures had been forged by Migues on official court documents.
Migues took office as marshal in 2019 and is currently serving his first six-year term.
