As Black Friday approaches, analysts say major department stores are offering some of the strongest deals. Kohl’s and Belk ranked high for discounts, and JCPenney is advertising reductions on up to 75 percent of certain items, including jewelry, apparel, and some appliances. Consumer packaged goods are expected to offer the best value, while furniture discounts are among the least competitive. Analysts note that about one in ten items may be cheaper on Amazon than at major retailers and advise shoppers not to overspend based solely on advertised discounts.
