Plans to build new restrooms at Chester Willis Field are on hold as Adams County supervisors await details on the cost of connecting the facility to city sewer lines. Construction costs, not including the sewer connection, have been bid at 243,000 dollars. Officials said the uncertainty over the additional utility expenses has placed the project in limbo.
Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry said he has been told by President Trump that National Guard troops will arrive in Louisiana in the coming weeks. Deployments of Guard units to cities around the country have drawn criticism from Democratic officials and others who say the action is unnecessary and could increase tension. Landry said the guardsmen are intended to provide added security and described them as citizen soldiers who serve during times of need. The deployment is expected to last for months and include areas with high violent crime in Baton Rouge and Shreveport.
Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves has directed a donation of chicken meat and eggs to the Mississippi Food Network and the Salvation Army. The donation includes 87,229 pounds of chicken and 129,600 eggs. Since the program began, members of the Mississippi Poultry Association have donated 977,000 pounds of chicken and 2,012,200 eggs, totaling about 6 million servings of protein. According to the governor, the poultry industry employs 32,000 workers directly, supports 1,700 farm families, and generates an additional 66,400 jobs. The total economic impact of the industry is 27.8 billion dollars.
Entergy Louisiana has broken ground on two power plants in Rayville that will supply power for Meta’s AI data center under construction in Richland Parish. According to Entergy Louisiana, Meta is funding the plants, which will add 1,500 megawatts of new generation using advanced and efficient technology designed to reduce fuel use and lower emissions. Company representatives said the power produced will support the entire grid, not just Meta’s facility. A third plant is planned for St. Charles Parish.
