Needed items include bed linens, towels, pillows, paper towels, tissue, kitchenware, small household appliances such as irons, coffee makers, and toasters, newborn diapers, and personal hygiene products. State Farm has filed to increase property insurance premiums in Louisiana by nearly 10 percent while also seeking to reduce auto insurance rates by almost 6 percent. According to Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple, the company requested the auto rate decrease because its claims payouts over the past year were lower than expected. Temple noted that auto insurance premiums correlate directly with claims expenses.
The U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to hear the appeal of Terry Pittsford, a Black Mississippi death row inmate whose case was prosecuted by Doug Evans, a former district attorney previously cited for discriminatory jury selection practices. A federal judge had overturned Pittsford’s murder conviction, but an appeals court later reinstated it. The case is expected to be argued in the spring.
In Louisiana, three out of four high school graduates in 2024 completed their studies with college credits or industry-based certifications. According to Tristan Dunley, Deputy Commissioner for Academic Affairs and Innovation at the Louisiana Board of Regents, these credits are guaranteed to transfer to any public institution in the state. Dunley said the state remains on track toward its goal of ensuring all graduates earn dual enrollment credits by 2030.
