Adams County Sheriff Travis Patton is seeking state support to fund a regional jail intended to serve southwest Mississippi. Patton proposes that construction and operational costs be shared among the state and nearby counties and municipalities that need additional inmate housing. He has asked the Mississippi Department of Corrections to partner with Adams County to build the detention facility on 45 acres of land located on U.S. 61 North near U.S. 84 outside Natchez. The property was donated to the county by the owners of Jordan Carriers, a trucking company based in Natchez.
Louisiana State Senator Blake Miguez has announced that he is ending his campaign for the U.S. Senate and will instead run for the U.S. House in the 5th Congressional District, which is being vacated by Julia Letlow. Miguez resides in New Iberia, which is not within the district’s boundaries. Political analyst Bernie Pinsonat notes that congressional candidates are not required to live in the district they seek to represent and says that Letlow’s entry into the Senate race following an endorsement from former President Donald Trump likely influenced Miguez’s decision.
