A bill awaiting Governor Jeff Landry’s signature aims to address co-mingling in Louisiana’s seafood industry, a practice in which imported shrimp is mixed with domestic shrimp and sold as a fully domestic product. Representative Tim Kerner of Lafitte sponsored the measure, which establishes fines between $10,000 and $50,000 for companies found to be co-mingling. The Southern Shrimp Alliance’s Sherry Blanchard said the bill increases awareness but emphasized that its effectiveness will depend on enforcement.
