NATCHEZ, Miss. – Mayor Dan Gibson and aldermen are planning to meet next week to approve a tax incentive for the Eola hotel’s restoration as developers move forward to renovate and reopen the downtown Natchez landmark.
Gibson said the sales-tax break is afforded by a state program to encourage tourism development.
While plans have been stalled for renovating the now-closed Eola hotel – the tallest commercial building in downtown Natchez – its developers have expressed confidence work will begin this year, Gibson said.
The hotel — built in 1927 – closed in December 2014 and has since severely deteriorated.
