| Natchez, MS – The Natchez Festival of Music is proud to present its exciting lineup of events for April and May 2023, featuring a diverse selection of music and performances that are sure to entertain audiences of all tastes and ages. Festival performances are held on Saturdays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from April 29 through May 20, and presented in a variety of venues such as the Natchez Civic Center, Trinity Episcopal Church, First Presbyterian Church, the Historic Natchez Foundation, Waverly, and our new “Listening Room Series” on Tuesday nights at Smoots Grocery and Blues Lounge.
The festival’s 33rd season kicks off on Saturday, April 29 when the festival presents the beloved comic operetta, “DIE FLEDERMAUS!” (Or, THE BAT GETS EVEN!”) by Johann Strauss II, with the festival orchestra and a very talented cast of professional singers from around the nation. On Tuesday, May 2, the festival invites audiences to enjoy “AN EVENING WITH ELLA FITZGERALD,” a tribute to the “First Lady of Song” with the stunning vocals of Katrina Cox, backed by the David Pelllow Jazz Trio. The festival then shifts gears on Thursday, May 4, with “THE GLORIOUS SOUNDS OF BRASS” featuring the Mississippi Symphony Brass Quintet.” This program showcases the beauty and power of brass music with a wide range of classical and contemporary pieces. On Saturday, May 6, the festival presents “SPECTACULAR, SPECTACULAR,” a Broadway Revue featuring eight fabulous singers and the TK Jazz Trio. Next up on Tuesday, May 9 is “DRIFTIN’ ON THE RIVER,” featuring the outstanding Chip Herrington Jazz 5 performing “real acoustic jazz in a traditional club setting,” just the way it’s meant to be heard. Classical music once again takes center stage on Thursday, May 11 with “ROSSINI PUCCINI, AND MARTINIS,” an evening of operatic arias and ensembles performed by guest vocalists. On Saturday, May 13, is “LA DIVINA,” a special tribute concert in honor of the legendary soprano Maria Callas that features the stunning vocals of Maryann Kyle. With this performance, the festival joins the rest of the world in the global centennial celebration of Maria Callas (1923-1977). The festival continues on Tuesday, May 16, with “THE VIRTUOSO GUITAR OF BARRY LEACH,” showcasing the breathtaking skills of one of Mississippi’s finest guitarists, Barry Leach. On Thursday, May 18, we present “TIMELESS VIRTUOSITY,” featuring internationally-known, Russian-American pianist Konstantin Soukhovetski in a concert featuring both well-known classical works by some of history’s greatest composers, as well as some of Konstantin’s original compositions. Finally, on Saturday, May 20, the festival ends with a bang with “THE HOT, SIZZLIN’, MUSICAL WORLD OF BILL SUMMERS.” This high-energy show features world-class percussionist Bill Summers and the New Orleans Allstars. The concert will feature a wide range of exciting music inspired by the rhythms of Africa and the Caribbean.
