Natchez police are stepping up enforcement against excessively loud vehicles following a growing number of complaints from residents, according to Mayor Dan Gibson.
During Tuesday’s Board of Aldermen meeting, Gibson addressed concerns about motorists whose vehicles generate excessive noise, saying the issue has become a frequent source of frustration for residents throughout the city.
The mayor described the problem as “an issue that I have received numerous complaints” about every day.
Gibson reminded residents that the city adopted a noise ordinance in 2023 aimed at addressing excessive vehicle noise and other disturbances. Violations of the ordinance can result in fines of up to $1,000.
With complaints continuing, the mayor said Natchez police officers are actively working to enforce the existing regulations.
Gibson also encouraged motorists to consider how their driving habits and vehicle noise affect surrounding neighborhoods.
He urged drivers “to be mindful of our community and our neighbors and to be good neighbors.”
