LSU women’s basketball coach Kim Mulkey has agreed to a new 10-year contract worth $32 million, making it the richest total contract in women’s college basketball history.
The deal, which must still be approved by the LSU board of supervisors, will pay Mulkey an average of $3.2 million per year. That would make her the highest-paid women’s basketball coach in the country, ahead of UConn’s Geno Auriemma ($2.9 million) and South Carolina’s Dawn Staley ($2.7 million).
Mulkey, 61, led the LSU Tigers to their first NCAA championship in women’s basketball in April. She is a four-time national champion, having also won titles at Baylor in 2005, 2012, and 2019.
The new contract is a significant raise for Mulkey, who was previously making $2.5 million per year. It is also a sign of LSU’s commitment to women’s basketball. The Tigers have made the NCAA tournament in each of the past two seasons, and they are expected to be a contender for the national title again this year.
Mulkey is a native of Louisiana
