Natchez, Mississippi, has been officially selected as the host city for the prestigious 2026 Annual Meeting of the Mississippi River Cities and Towns Initiative (MRCTI). The event, set for September 2026, will bring together mayors from cities along the Mississippi River.
This announcement was made at the recent MRCTI conference in Washington D.C., and Natchez Mayor Dan Gibson expressed his enthusiasm about the opportunity. “I am excited to announce that Natchez has been chosen to be the host city for the 2026 Annual Meeting of the Mississippi River Cities and Towns Initiative. We will be hosting mayors from cities along our great river, from Bimidji, MN to Gretna, LA in September, 2026,” Mayor Gibson shared.
The 2026 meeting is not just another event on the calendar; it coincides with the 250th celebration of the nation’s independence.
Mayor Gibson also highlighted the collaborative spirit of the region, looking forward to working closely with Vidalia, LA, and its Mayor, Buz Craft. “We look forward to working with our sister city, Vidalia, LA, and my brother Mayor Buz Craft, to make this a meeting our fellow mayors will never forget,” he said.
The last MRCTI meeting in Natchez took place in 2016, making the 2026 gathering particularly special. MRCTI is an influential organization that represents over 100 cities across 10 states along the Mississippi River, aiming to address regional challenges and promote sustainable development.
“To be named host city in 2026 is a distinct honor, and we are blessed to call this beautiful city our home,” Mayor Gibson remarked.
