Zandra McDonald-Green, the former Interim Superintendent, has been appointed as the new Superintendent of the Natchez Adams School District (NASD), effective July 1. This decision was confirmed by a unanimous vote from the NASD Board of Trustees during a special meeting on April 23.
Green’s contract, spanning three years was approved after a motion by board member Phillip West and seconded by Dianne Bunch, Ph.D.
Green’s career with NASD spans over 25 years, during which she has served as a teacher, principal, deputy superintendent, and interim superintendent. An alumnus of the district, Green steps into her new role following the retirement of Superintendent Fred Butcher on June 30, 2023, after seven years in the position.
As interim superintendent, Green prioritized enhancing communication through “Community Conversations,” inviting stakeholders to Natchez High School for forums to discuss district updates and gather community input.
One significant initiative under Green’s leadership is the reorganization of the district’s kindergarten through eighth-grade schools to a grade-level-based structure, set to take effect next school year. This change aims to address a shortage of highly qualified elementary teachers and to foster early socialization among students from different communities. The decision was informed by stakeholder input from the Community Conversations forums and an online survey.
