OXFORD, Miss. (AP) — A Mississippi judge will be giving up his seat on the bench at the end of next month.
According to a letter announcing his retirement, Circuit Judge John A Gregory said he intended to fulfill his term after he qualified for re-election in 2018 but because of some “life-changing events,” he has since decided that now is the time to retire.
“I want to spend time with my family,” Gregory said.
Gregory’s official retirement is June 30. His departure coincides with Senior Circuit Judge Andrew Howorth, who announced his retirement in January, the Oxford Eagle reported.
Gregory has served on the circuit bench since 2011. He also served as an assistant district attorney for the Third Circuit District for nine years. Prior to that he was elected for six terms as Chickasaw County’s prosecuting attorney and served 23 years.
