NATCHEZ, Miss. – The city’s trash collector is operating with a new name but the same services after being bought by a North Carolina-based company.
“The bottom line is we’re now known as Meridian Waste,” said Jimmie Moore, an executive with what was Arrow Disposal Service, the Alabama-based company that’s been contracted since 2018 to provide Natchez households three-times-a-week curbside trash collection services.
Moore met Tuesday with Natchez Mayor Dan Gibson and the Board of Aldermen to share information about the corporate takeover.
Aside from a new name and logo branded on garbage trucks in the coming months and different customer service contacts, no changes will be made as the same Arrow personnel and services will continue in Natchez, according to Moore.
“I think it’s going to be real good for you and the city of Natchez,” he told the mayor and aldermen of Meridian’s takeover.
Meridian acquired Arrow this month to add Mississippi and Alabama to the various cities and counties it now serves in eight states.
“Meridian Waste is in full growth mode, as exhibited by the company’s announcement of its largest acquisition yet of these impressive Alabama and Mississippi assets,” Meridian Waste CEO Wally Hall said Sept. 3 in announcing the corporate takeover. “Our management team is very familiar with the Alabama and Mississippi marketplaces from previous roles in the industry.”
Hall has strong Mississippi ties. He graduated from Mississippi College and was a baseball coach at the University of Mississippi.
Headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., Meridian Waste operates in northeast Florida, St. Louis, Mo., Goldston, N.C., Raleigh, N.C., Greensboro, N.C., Greenville, S.C., Knoxville, Tenn., Huntsville, Ala., central Alabama, north and south Mississippi, Blacksburg, Va., Harrisonburg, Va., and Richmond, Va., servicing more than 500,000 customers.
