Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has unveiled plans to construct a $10 billion Artificial Intelligence (AI) data center in Richland Parish. This transformative project marks one of the state’s largest-ever private capital investments.
The facility will be built on the former Franklin Farms site, located between Rayville and Delhi. Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry joined Meta officials on Wednesday, Dec. 4, to announce the initiative. Landry highlighted the project’s potential to revolutionize the region’s economy and technological landscape.
“In the world of technology and innovation, we now announce the Meta Artificial Intelligence Optimized Data Center,” said Landry, emphasizing its significance in delivering high-paying jobs and economic development to Northeast Louisiana. Landry also credited former Congressman Ralph Abraham for his collaborative efforts in identifying Richland Parish’s potential for such a venture.
Economic and Workforce Impact
During the peak of construction, the project is expected to employ 5,000 workers on-site, creating a substantial boost for the local economy. Once operational, the state-of-the-art facility will demand advanced power infrastructure, spurring Entergy to develop new power plants to support the center’s energy needs. Meta has committed to offsetting its energy consumption with renewable sources, aligning with its sustainability goals.
Local Leaders Applaud the Initiative
The announcement was met with widespread enthusiasm from local and state officials. U.S. Representative Julia Letlow, representing Louisiana’s 5th District, called the project a turning point for the region.
“They’re going to remember this as the day that Louisiana was transformed,” said Letlow.
State Senator Katrina Jackson-Andrews echoed Letlow’s sentiment, expressing gratitude to Meta for selecting Richland Parish as the site for this cutting-edge facility.
“To Meta, for choosing Richland Parish, for choosing us to become your partner and building the future of human connection and the technology to provide for it, we are forever grateful,” Jackson-Andrews stated.
A Timeline for Transformation
Construction of the Meta Artificial Intelligence Optimized Data Center is set to commence this December, with the facility projected to be completed by 2030.
Meta’s investment signifies a major step forward for Louisiana, promising to redefine the state’s economic and technological landscape while fostering innovation and connectivity for years to come.
