What's Happening on October 16th?

Mayor Dan Gibson will read a proclamation declaring it Paint Natchez Pink Day on Thursday, October 15 before the start of Live at Five on the bluff. Thank you Live at Five organizers for allowing us to open with the proclamation event beginning at 4:30 p.m. Stick around and enjoy the music!

We encourage you and your employees to wear the Paint Natchez Pink t-shirts or Pink clothing in general.

We encourage you to decorate your business in “all things pink” and use the Paint Natchez Pink poster provided for you in your business.

We encourage you to take a look at the list below of other suggested ways you and your business and employees could get involved in this campaign designed to create awareness and education for breast cancer.

Paint Natchez Pink Ideas

You have the power to spread hope and awareness in Natchez on this day and throughout the month of October. Whether you are a home owner, restaurateur, business owner, retail or industry employer, check out these ideas to help turn Natchez Pink throughout the month of October and attend the proclamation reading on Thursday, October 16 for the official “Paint Natchez Pink Day”.

  • Decorate your home or store windows with a pink display.
  • Encourage breast cancer survivors and their families to attend the event on October 16.
  • Allow your employees to wear their Paint Natchez Pink t-shirts during the month and/or on October 16.
  • Have a Pink Pumpkin Decorating Contest.
  • Hold a “street” contest for Best Pink Window display.
  • Decorate your front entrance, your fence or your door with pink balloons.

How common is breast cancer?

  • Breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed among women in the U.S. Each year, about 32% of all newly diagnosed cancers in women are breast cancer.

  • In 2025, approximately 316,950 women will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer, with 59,080 new cases of ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), which is non-invasive.

  • About 16% of women with breast cancer are younger than 50 years of age.

  • About 66% of breast cancer cases are diagnosed at a localized stage — before cancer has spread outside of the breast — when treatments tend to work better.

  • Female breast cancer incidence rates have been slowly increasing since the mid-2000s, largely driven by diagnoses of localized-stage and hormone receptor-positive disease.

  • There are currently more than four million women with a history of breast cancer in the U.S. This includes women currently being treated and women who have finished treatment.

  • About 42,170 women will die from breast cancer in 2025.

  • Less than 1% of all breast cancers occur in men.
