Kool & the Gang, officially launched in 1969 after performing for five years under various band titles, has influenced the music of three generations. At the age of 49, the band has become true recording industry legends. Thanks to iconic songs like Celebration, Cherish, Jungle Boogie, Summer Madness and Open Sesame, they’ve earned two Grammy Awards, seven American Music Awards, 25 Top Ten R&B hits, nine Top Ten Pop hits and 31 gold and platinum albums. From Nairobi to Newark, Kool & the Gang has performed continuously longer than any R&B group in history and their bulletproof funk and jazzy arrangements have also made them the most sampled R&B band of all time. A reviewer recently called their performance “a 24-karat show” and every year, even after a half-century on the road, yields a non-stop schedule of shows across the globe.
Patti LaBelle has sold over 50 million records worldwide and was inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1993, the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2003, the Apollo Theater Hall of Fame in 2009, and the Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame in 2022 . After getting her start with Patti LaBelle and the Bluebelles, LaBelle shot to fame in the late 1970s with her career-defining song “You Are My Friend.” She became a mainstream solo star soon after with hit singles such as “If Only You Knew,” “Love, Need and Want You” and “New Attitude.” Patti LaBelle is recognized worldwide for her for her passionate stage performances, wide vocal range and distinctive high-octave belting. Patti LaBelle has aptly been nicknamed the “Godmother of Soul.”
CeeLo Green gained initial prominence with Southern hip-hop group Goodie Mob after being featured on several songs with Outkast and releasing their first album, “Soul Food”. Eventually breaking off on his own, CeeLo released his first solo albums Cee-Lo Green and His Perfect Imperfections and Cee-Lo Green…Is the Soul Machine in the early 2000s.. Green was catapulted to worldwide fame in 2006 with his hit “Crazy,” which reached the top 5 in 20 countries. 4 years later, Green released his viral hit “F*ck You,” which sold over 6 million copies in the US alone. Over the course of his 30-year career, CeeLo Green has received five Grammy Awards, one BET award, one Billboard Music Award, and one Brit Award for his contributions to the industry.
